Howdy Ladies,
This week I watched our staff to see how they handled these "new literacies". YIKES!
If teachers are going to be able to help students handle this faced paced and sometimes complicated world of technology they are definately going to need some assistance.
We have teachers who panic and need assistance to check their school email to find our what the principal has sent that they needed to take care of "yesterday" all the way to people who can get to what they need 3 different ways, including what I hear referred to as "the back door".
The vocabulary gets in the way for some teachers. I noticed that when "tech talk" was explained some teachers could handle the task at hand. Many seem to have checking personal email and a few choice sites under their belt, but research, or educational material was another story.

HELLO KATHY! I like your greeting! Was a different feel!
Tech talk is AWEFUL! In my school, I have been labeled as the TECHIE. The teachers seek me out when they need help or whatever done on their computers. I don't mind, but let me tell you....many of the teachers (several experienced teachers, but there are newer teachers too) do PANIC when they need to use technology! they think I know what I'm doing - but honestly, I DON'T! Maybe I am less afraid of breaking the computer (hey-it's not mine!) and I tend to have more patience that other people may have with the computer. But it's a frustrating tool, especially if you don't like computers!
I agree with you Kathy - if we are going to teach new literacies in school, the state and districts must help teachers become comfortable and relaxed around technology. It isn't going to be an easy task, and to be quite honest, since technology is constantly changing, most of us will never fully know how to effectively use computers/Internet/technology.
See you tomorrow!
