Day Two

Good Evening!

I've discussed this blogging thing with my 3 teenagers and they are in agreement that they would define it as "an online diary, a place to vent, a place just to ramble, a source of news at times".
So, it appears we are to converse on the topics from class and the text and share thoughts and ideas.

I found chapter one FILLED with cool sites for teachers!! I visited all but one of them and was "floored" by the number of resources.
There is alot on the social studies/history site for the older set, but I did find one really neat activity I'm going to show my class this week in the computer lab. It has to do with brand names and where they originated in the U.S. VERY informative.

What I would like now is a day off every other week to go through these resources!
I found myself stuck at the math site trying to figure out all the math challenges! I think these will be great for differentiating instruction for my more advanced students.

What is the proper way to sign off my blog, knowing that it is available for anyone to review???

Hi Kathy.

Before I forget, I just sign my blogs with my name. It's easy, and I am relating the blog to a writer's notebook for people to read.

I relaly enjoyed reading the text too. I have just begun reviewing the websites, but so far, I really like them. On my school homepage, I already have several sites for my students to visit during literacy centers (math, reading, writing, etc.) so they can review topics, extend thinking, etc. They absolutely love starfall.com. I need to remember to include some of the websites from pages 3 and4 on my homepage too because I think they will be valuable as well.

It's funny....I search the web for hours and find very few sites that are appropriate and/or useful for classroom instruction. Yet, I finally read one book, and the number of sites available for teachers and students is incredible. You're right! You just need days to look things over and try out. And isn't that what teachers lack - TIME!

Have a great night, and I will see you in class tomorrow night.

hey Kathy

Your such a hip mom, you have a blog. I went to many of the websites but as you said you really need a lot of time to go through them. Many were good for teachers. I can't wait to know how your kids did in the computer lab. I have never brought my kids to the lab it's hard with 5 year olds.

HI Kathy,
I love that you are thinking of using technology and new literacies as a way to differentiate instruction. I think that there are lots of ways of doing this.
